FORD Pre-Crossflow Pre X/flow
The Kent Pre X-Flow engine is easily identifiable from the Ford Kent X-Flow by its cylinder head, since the exhaust and intake are on the same side (right side when looking at the car from the front).
The Pre X-Flow was first fitted to the Ford 107E Prefect and the Ford Anglia 105E in 1959. Available in 997cc, 1198cc, 1340cc and then 1498cc, this engine can therefore be found on the Ford Anglia, Cortina MK1 and the first Cortina MK2, Ford Corsair and Ford Classics.
The versions up to 1340cc have a 3-bearing crankshaft (hollow for the first versions then changed later) while the 1500 (1498cc) which started on the Cortina (including the GT) has a 5-bearing crankshaft.
The launch of the Cortina MK2 in 1967 was also an opportunity for Ford to introduce the use of more modern engine seals than the cord versions used until then.
The 1500 Pre X-Flow also formed the basis of the Lotus Twin Cam engine, for which selected blocks were rebored. The Cortina MK2's "L" type blocks, meanwhile, had thicker walls, making these engines the first choice for engine tuning.
All Pre X-flow models (except the 1500GT) were equipped with a single-barrel carburetor made by Zenith or Solex, the GT being equipped with a Weber 28/36 DCD carburetor.
