Lancé dans les années 70, le Ford Pinto fut un des premiers moteurs produit en masse à avoir l'arbre à cames en tête, entrainé par une courroie à dents.
Deux versions existent, le Cortina / RS2000 et le Sierra qui est en général pour sans plomb.
On trouve le moteur PINTO principalement sur les Cortina MK3 MK4 et MK5 / Taunus / Capri / Escort MK1 MK2 / Granada et Transit. Ces moteurs ont un carter huile arrière en acier, les version RS2000 en alu.
Lorsque vu de face, l'admission est à droite et l'échappement à gauche.
