FORD V6 Essex

In 1966, the Essex V4 had 2 more cylinders added and the Essex V6 joined the ranks of FORD engines with a displacement of 2494cc or 2994cc.

But the engine most often referred to when talking about the Essex V6 is the version introduced in 1970. Similar to previous versions in terms of its general architecture, many parts are nevertheless completely different and not interchangeable, so be sure to check your engine model before ordering parts.

Although at first glance "light" in power at 138hp, especially when compared to the Cologne which will replace it (160hp), the strong point of the Essex engine is its torque and its potential for preparation up to 300hp (for a very high-performance competition engine).

A few important points before going any further: The Essex V6 is not designed to run on unleaded fuel, so unleaded valve seats are recommended, and the fiber distribution cascade does not always withstand a large increase in power well.

The Weber 38 DGAS carburetor is more than sufficient for up to 180 hp with recalibration and the addition of an electric fuel pump. A good air filter will also help to unleash this potential; the stock filter isn't ideal for gaining horsepower.
