NOTES ON INSTALLING THE SPEED SENSOR

1. The Smiths PAFEMP34-1(KIT) speed sensor is an inductive proximity type sensor, normally used to detect a steel target, for example: Bolt heads on a driveshaft flange or transmission shaft.

2. The installer must provide a suitable mounting bracket with an 8 mm mounting hole for the sensor; once installed, it remains constant under all driving conditions.

3. The distance between the sensor face and the target should be set to 2.0 mm.

4. The bolt heads on a driveshaft flange (or other target) must be equidistant, to ensure that the transmitter generates a constant frequency.

5. The sensor must be connected as follows:

• • Brown wire – to be connected to the 12-volt positive power supply of the ignition switch
  
• • Blue wire – connected to earth.
  
• • Black wire – speed signal, connected to the white/black wire on the speedometer harness
